Young women that need help in Abilene, Texas, can soon turn to BCFS Health and Human Services and the organization’s Our House for Young Women. This under-construction center will provide housing and care services for young women and allow them to successfully transition into adulthood.
BCFS Health and Human Services is part of a global nonprofit organization with multiple capabilities, including helping people with disabilities, youth from foster care, low-income parents, families in crisis, orphaned children, foster or adoptive families, and many others facing crisis and challenge.
The organization blessed the in-progress center in April of 2021 in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. A group of people from the organization and various partner agencies led talks and prayers about the center. Participants asked for favor to fall upon the people currently occupying Our House as well as the women who would soon find comfort at the center.
Guests at the opening event signed beams to mark the momentous achievement and to faithfully bless the center with hope for success. Alana Jeter, Regional Director with BCFS Health and Human Services and an Abilene resident, said the beam signing provided those involved with a way to leave a positive message. While the signings will be covered by paint and sheetrock, they serve a purpose that will carry through the center’s mission of providing care for women in crisis. Many of the signings referenced Bible verses reflecting strength, the power of the home, and wisdom.
The Abilene location of BCFS Health and Human Services provides several services to residents. The Our House program began in 2012 and for the first nine years of its existence has only served male residents. With the Our House for Young Women expansion, the organization will now a safe and nurturing environment for women facing homelessness or other challenging issues.
