Moms Who Do It All

An important aspect of being a stay at home mom is to make sure you make yourself some “me” time. If you don’t set aside some time for you just to be you, you will drive yourself crazy. Don’t forget about your friends, you are going to need them to keep from pulling your hair out. Set back and let loose. My friends and I set one night a week a “girls night out” that usually turns into a “girls night in” that can produce some pretty hilarious conversations. While on the topic of hilarious, if not a little awkward conversation, my best friend once asked me how to prevent boob sweat?  It is, after all, the summertime bane of all womankind. She then asked how I remedy the curse. I told her “I have tried everything! But, the one thing I can say that works is to apply some underarm deodorant and antiperspirant all around them. It works wonders and actually makes them smell pleasant. No more smelly boob sweat.”

If you ever had the thought that being a stay at home mom was easy, then I’m sorry you are wrong. Taking care of a household is a job that never ends. With most careers you go to a place that you loathe for about 8 hours then you get to come home. When your home is your office, this is not the case. Yeah, the setting may be more comfortable, but only if you have worked your butt off to make it that way. Not only do you not get to set back and relax, but you are also responsible for everyone else. This is especially true if like me you homeschool. I can honestly say that though the pay sucks and the hours are horrible there is nothing more rewarding.

Homeschooling is a challenge. No questions there; but you can ensure that your child is getting a level of education that is up to your scrutinizing standards. Be prepared though for there are some unforeseen challenges ahead. One thing I didn’t anticipate was having to grade your child’s homework and give them a bad grade. It just did not occur to me that I would have to grade my child’s work. My mind was filled with the grandiose ideations that I was raising and educating the next Einstien. It just simply did not occur to me that part of the learning process was making mistakes and I would have to be the one to address those mistakes.

Homeschooling can also be expensive depending on which curriculum you decide to go with. The saying you get what you pay for is undoubtedly fitting here. Before you decide on a curriculum you should put the leg work in and find the one that suits you and your child; you will be glad you did.

You will also have to make a schedule and stick to it. Never slack up because the first time you do, it becomes a habit. Your child falling behind because you got a little too relaxed in your scheduling is not a place you want to be. Homeschooling is a major responsibility and not a decision that should be made lightly.

If you are a stay at home mom who also homeschools, I can assure you that you will have both “working” boob sweat and stress boob sweat. Let us not forget that you will most likely also have to run all the errands on top of being a teacher, maid, and wife. So how does one juggle all of these titles? With the love and passion that comes with being a strong woman. Women have a way of wearing all these hats at once and still being beautiful. We can handle all of this and then some. Sure we may have a nervous breakdown or four, but that just comes with the territory. I can honestly say that all things considered I am blessed to have the life that I do. I would not trade it for anything in the world. So for all the women out there that do everything and then some. YOU ROCK!
