What Are The Benefits of Production Machining?

November 19, 2020 By anthony Leave a Comment

Throughout the world of manufacturing there is a constant evolution taking place which seeks to increase the efficiency, the accuracy and the speed of the production of goods. Within this there is a vast array of techniques which can be used that will deliver on those aims. One such technique which we are going to take a deeper look into today is production machining, this is a critical component of manufacturing which is used in the production of so many goods and parts. Here we will take a brief look into what this technique is and then what benefits it offers to a manufacturer.

What Exactly Is Production Machining?

Simply put this is a tool which is able to create tools and machinery using high detailed and precise dimensions and measurements for the perfect production every time. What this particular form of machining relies heavily upon is CNC which stands for Computer Numerical Control. This aspect of machining takes over from the manually operated machines of the past, and instead allow for computers to design the part or the tool which is being created, for a more accurate result. There are three main types of CNC machining, the first is milling, the seance is turning and the third is EDM, which utilizes a controlled electrical discharge in the production process.

The main metals which are used in this process are aluminum, stainless steel, brass and some other, less used types of metal such as cobalt. These metals are ideal given how malleable they are and they are also the most commonly used metals in the production of parts and equipment.

Benefits of CNC Machining

There is a wealth of benefits which this machining process is able to deliver for business, let’s take a look at just some of them:

  • The process requires very few steps to be taken in order to produce high quality parts
  • CNC machining is able to produce goods which are made up of complex shapes with ease
  • Minimal waste thanks to more intuitive machining
  • Higher levels of precision which ensures that the production is right first time
  • Cost saving thanks to the reduction in waste and the precision of the production
  • Enables companies to scale up production without additional manpower and in a short space of time
  • Less safety risks thanks to the fact that the operator is not required in the process

As you can see, given the ease of use and the great number of benefits which CNC machining is able to deliver, it is quite clear why it is used so heavily in the manufacturing industry. We are seeing better technological advancements by the day with this technology which is further helping businesses within manufacturing to produce higher level products at greater speed and with better efficiency. The perfect example of this would be 3D printing, which is now creating some truly spellbinding products using the automation process which is also used in CNC machine printing.
