Taking a Holistic Approach to Whole-body Health

July 20, 2020 By anthony Leave a Comment

Holistic health is an idea that is starting to gain some acceptance in the mainstream as people become more aware of the importance of taking good care of themselves and protecting their physical and mental well-being for the future. The idea of holistic health is simple. The human body is more than just the sum of its parts. The mind and spirit can affect the body.

People who practice a holistic approach to their health consider human well-being to have four parts:

  • Physical
  • Mental
  • Emotional
  • Spiritual

For a person to feel at their best, they must take care of all four of those aspects of their well-being. In today’s stressful and ever-busy worlds, it can be difficult to do this. Many people feel that they are too busy to take time out for meditation and yoga, or that the more “traditional” elements of holistic medicine are perhaps a little too “out there” for their scientifically-inclined tastes. Fortunately, there are many elements of holistic health that can be integrated into western philosophies. The idea of taking care of your mind and body to improve your overall well-being is an easy one to understand.

Look After Yourself First

At its core, the idea of whole-body health is all about taking care of yourself. Everything that you do each day is linked. If you don’t exercise, your mood will be poor and you may struggle to sleep. If you don’t sleep well, you will find yourself less productive the next day. If you eat junk you will feel sluggish and lethargic and not want to exercise. If your mood is poor your personal relationships will suffer.

Breaking the cycle of negative behaviors by taking the time to look after yourself is essential. Looking after yourself could be as simple as soaking in a hot bubble bath before bed, or treating yourself to some of the best vibrators for sale and enjoying some me-time. You might find that blocking out a non-negotiable hour a few times a week to go to the gym will make you feel more focused, relaxed and productive as well as conferring the long-term health benefits of regular exercise.

Setting a fixed bed time could help you sleep better, reducing your long-term caffeine usage and lowering your stress levels. Even if you aren’t spiritual, taking time to read, relax and contemplate offers a boost to your mental health. Positive changes to your mood will be noticed by your friends and family, and that in turn will improve your personal relationships and your mental well-being.

The whole-body and holistic approach to health teach that good health is not just about supplements, medicine and exercise. To truly be well your mind and spirit need to be given a chance to rest and recover just as your body does. Put that idea into practice, let yourself grow stronger physically and mentally and reap the benefits.
