It’s that time again, every four years sees the top European nations battle it out in the ultimate European International competition. This year’s event takes place in France from June 10th to July 10th and looks set to be one of the most tightly contested championships for some years. The host nation look firm favourites going into the competition but will be pushed no doubt by the standard names with Germany, Spain, England and Belgium all looking to put their names on the trophy. Whilst we are all waiting with excitement to see who will be crowned champions on the 10th of July, that is not what we are here for. Each tournament, every nation introduces a brand new kit with which they will do battle, in recent years these kits have become something of a fashion statement rather than a functional representation of their respective country’s. Following the release of the new kits, we want to break down the top 4 that have caught our attention.
Germany
Germany have harked back to years gone by with their 2016 kit, simple and effective. The kit, designed by Adidas features just 2 main colours, white and black. The shirt has piping around the round neck and the sleeve ends, as well as a tapered side, it won’t blow you away from a style point of view but this kit is pragmatic and effective, much like the German style of football.
Italy
Where better to look for a style statement that Italy, a nation that oozes fashion and class require a football shirt that will display the same traits. That is exactly what Puma have done with this delightful football shirt that features the traditional Italian blue with faded pinstripes running from top to bottom. The shirt has a tight round neck and thick white lines running from the collar down the sleeve. Classy and stylish.
Croatia
It may not be to everyone’s taste but Nike have taken the classic Croatian chess-board effect shirt and flipped it on it’s head. The checks remain in the classic red and white form but have been twisted to resemble something more of an Escher painting. This mind-boggling shirt may well dizzy the opponents sufficiently to allow Croatia an advantage in this year’s competition, and we love it.
Turkey
Whilst they may not be going into the the tournament as anything more than hopefuls, the Turks can feel proud that as they battle it out in this tournament that they will be looking good on the pitch. The fiery red shirt has been given a twist with a colour fade from top to bottom, beginning with thick red that we associate with Turkey the shirt descends into a deep red that almost turns black. The shirt has been style with a subtle criss-cross that makes this offering from Nike one of the competition’s winners.
