Whilst yoga has been around for centuries, we have seen a sharp increase in its popularity in recent years. There are a number of reasons for this and the explosion of fitness is doubtless one of the driving factors behind it. Collectively we are a much more fitness conscious race than we have been for some time, and owing to the benefits of yoga there are many who have switched to this daily practice.
There are many different types of yoga from Bikram yoga, Yin yoga and Vinyasa yoga, as well as some more standardised versions of the exercise. Whilst each may differ in terms of discipline and with regards to the way in which they are performed, the benefits of each remains very much the same, and here is why so many are looking to get started with the yogi lifestyle.
Increased Balance and Flexibility
There are multiple benefits which you can count on from yoga and by far away some of the strongest and most helpful to our lives is its ability to increase our flexibility and our balance. Flexibility is not just great for our overall health, it can also greatly support us in our later years, as the joints can begin to seize up. With regards to both balance and flexibility these can both greatly help us in other exercises which we may wish to have a go at.
Stress Reduction
When we perform yoga we increase and improve the natural flow of the body’s energy and movements and that is critical to offering us relaxation. This relaxation is also the root of our lowered anxiety levels and a heightened sense of awareness of the small things in life which cause stress. Stress is not something that we can avoid but we do have the capabilities to deal with high levels of stress, the key is working on our coping mechanisms so that we can deal with that stress when it comes along, and yoga to do that for us.
Building Strength
Yoga is not exactly a workout in the traditional sense of the word, but it is vitally important for strengthening our body. This particularly applies to the strength of our core and the strength of our shoulders, which benefit from poses which are held for a long time. This strength will help with so many areas of your life from posture to general fitness.
Circulation
The movements of yoga greatly help to open up the muscles and the joints, which in turn ensures that the veins and capillaries are all nice and open and ready for action. This helps us to increase the flow of circulation and to really improve the circulatory system. The result of improving this system is better heart health and organ health in general, as the body will receive all of the oxygen and the energy that it needs to function to the max.
These are just some of the benefits which you can count on when you do yoga each day.
