When lockdown hit last year I quickly realized that I could no longer head out with my buddy Javier Burillo for our lengthy bike rides, and that meant I was at risk of piling on some pounds. Javier and I would go for big 100 mile rides once a week, but that looked to be off the cards for some time to come. I did consider buying an exercise bike but the truth is that you just cannot replicate being out in the fresh air, and I knew that I would be bored in no time. Instead I decided to buy a spinning bike, with controlled resistance, and it turned out to be one of the best purchases that I have made for a long time.
If you are interested in staying fit at home, here is why a spinning bike is a great option.
Low Impact
When it comes to hard surfaces it can be very difficult and a little risky to do some exercise, because you run the risk of hurting your knees and your joints. This is why cycling is such a good idea and it is why no matter how much you weigh, you can get on and really have a good workout, without risk to your body. The smooth flow of the pedals ensures that you won’t have to worry about impact injuries.
Under Your Control
The idea of spinning is short bursts of energy which get the heart pumping, and the front wheel can also be changed so that the resistance is higher, which replicates a hill climb. Now when you are following videos or even just doing your own workouts, you can move this resistance level to suit you. What this means is that no matter what level of fitness you are at, there is a chance to increase and decrease the pressure so that you feel comfortable. This resistance is great for building muscle and for helping you to push your body that little bit further.
Small Item
I don’t live in a huge apartment and to be honest I was a little worried that the bike would take up loads of space. I couldn’t have been more wrong however and the truth is that the bike is really small and easy to stow away. If you want some cardio machine in the home and you are worried about it taking up space then this is certainly the best option for you.
Short and Sharp
As much as I do miss long bike rides I have to say that it is very refreshing to use a spinning bike and to have those workouts over and done with in no time. There are some workouts which are under 30 minutes and will see you burn some serious calories. For anyone who isn’t interested in exercises but still wants to get in better shape, this is the perfect option.
I’m back to riding outside now, but that spinning bike is still getting some heavy use, a great product.
