Whether things are going wonderfully in your life, like hiring an executive jet charter, there may still be a part of you that is hanging on to something that is no longer serving you.
We’re offering 4 tips on letting go.
Let’s get into it!
Embrace the Present Moment
The moment right in front of you is the only thing that exists. So often, we live in our minds, forgetting the only thing that’s ever real – right now. This is what makes us get caught in a vicious cycle of returning to the past or getting anxious over a future, both of which do not exist.
Embracing the present moment allows you to let go of the past and pay attention to what you see, feel, and hear in the present. Instead of obsessively thinking about what has happened, you can appreciate the blue sky overhead and the taste of coffee as it hits your lips.
Mindfulness is a powerful tool to help you let go of what no longer serves you. Practicing mindfulness meditation can help you to develop this practice further. The more you practice, the more awareness and presence will occur naturally in your daily life.
Forgive Yourself, Forgive Others
Forgiveness is key when it comes time to let go. If you still hold any negative thoughts and feelings about a person or situation, you can never truly release that from your heart. Just consider how much energy that takes to hold on.
Instead, spend time forgiving yourself and forgiving others. It’s important that you are honest with yourself when you do so. It’s certainly easier to say one thing but not truly believe or feel it. Look deeply into your heart and invite compassion and understanding in.
When you forgive, you free up an enormous amount of energy. You can use this energy towards loving yourself and others more.
Invite Positive Thoughts
Positive thinking doesn’t always come easily. Particularly if you’ve been in a state of anxiety, sadness, or grief. Yet, this doesn’t mean you can’t invite positive thoughts to enter your mind.
While it’s impossible to control all the thoughts that enter our minds, we can intentionally place thoughts there. By repeating positive affirmations, you’re getting closer to your truth. Happiness and peace are always possible. Reminding yourself of this will instantly give you some relief.
The more you practice positive thinking, the less likely you are to dwell in the past. In turn, this will help you to let go and move on from those negative feelings that you carried with you for so long.
Accept Impermanence
Nothing in this world is permanent. This includes relationships, people, experiences, and feelings. While this appears scary, it doesn’t have to be.
The only problem is when we expect things to be permanent when they will go away eventually. This is why accepting that things will always change is key to letting go of our past. It is a fruitless task to try and hold on to something that is no longer there.
Relish in the fact that things change. This is true for both positive and negative parts of us. The door to opportunity is always open.
