I had wanted to visit Berlin for a very long time, every time a weekend away or a European holiday has occurred, Berlin seems to always miss out for one reason or another. So for a birthday treat, my friend and I decided to go all out for a 3 night stay in the German capital.
There were many things that I was looking forward to seeing in Berlin, the Brandenburg gate, the famous Holocaust Museum and some of the city’s wonderful modern architecture. We had our days planned out so that we could take in the culture of the city but if I’m being brutally honest, I was mostly excited about seeing Berlin’s famous nightlife.
As it was my birthday, we spared no expense, we stayed in one of the city’s nicest hotels and we made a conscious decision not to look at the price of anything in a restaurant before we ordered, this weekend was about having as much fun as possible without any cares. After seeing an ad online for a chauffeur service in Berlin we decided that what better way to transfer from the airport to our beautiful hotel than in a stylish, chauffeur driven car, so that is exactly what we did, to start the weekend off in style.
The company was called Blacklane and in all honesty it wasn’t as expensive as we first thought, we paid around 35 Euros for the 30 minute transfer from the airport to our hotel, split between two of us it really worked out well. Professional service, beautiful and comfortable car and a cheery driver, we couldn’t have asked for more.
I really enjoyed the culture and history that Berlin offered and I was equally impressed by the nightlife, the energy and variety of bars, clubs and restaurants was extremely broad. Whether you are into hard rock, heavy dance music, something a little more ‘risqué’ or a quiet beer in one of the city’s hundreds of specialist beer bars, you will find what you want here. The beer bars were my favourite places, I love how seriously they take the craft of beer making, in the UK we’re used to just getting a pint of whatever the pub has, in whatever glass they have. In Berlin however, each beer has it’s own glass and it’s own ritual for storing it, pouring it and drinking it, the only problem I found was that there was almost too much choice!
Berlin take their nightlife as seriously as they take their culture and heritage and I could not have picked a better city to spend birthday weekend. Despite the great weekend I spent, I still don’t feel as though I have really scratched the surface of this city, there were so many more places that I simply didn’t get a chance to see and I will most definitely be back in Berlin in no time at all.
