Families in the rural hamlet of Xuan An are unable to meet their children’s needs. Most are farmers, and the time-consuming and arduous labor their fields require leave parents struggling to find a means of caring for their children during work hours.
These hardworking families also recognize education is key to ensuring their children lead better lives. As a result, they have established a temporary kindergarten in a government meetinghouse to address their children's needs. However, this facility is in serious disrepair and lacks the equipment and space to accommodate all of the village's children. Many families have resorted to sacrificing the income that could be earned by a parent or the education of an older sibling so that their young children are safe during the day.
This project will fund the construction of a kindergarten facility that will ensure 40 young children have access to a safe and comfortable space where they can learn, grow, and achieve. In the new kindergarten, children will be able to attend classes all day during which they will develop communication skills, learn their colors, letters, and numbers, and enjoy drawing, singing, and playing.
Become a Citizen Philanthropist and partner with the families of Xuan An so that all of the village's young children can begin their academic careers with the resources that will improve their futures and allow their parents to earn the income that will change their lives.
Funding will construct a new kindergarten facility that will be approximately 25 X 30 ft and accommodate up to 40 students. The facility will include:
• ceiling fans
• a proper lighting system
• indoor toilets and washrooms
• a small kitchen
• accommodations for children with disabilities including ramps, elevated washbasins, and wider doors
• a plastered brick wall to surround the building so that children are safe to play outside
The local government will contribute fast growing trees that will provide shade during the children’s outside playtime.
The hamlet of Xuan An lacks the educational facilities that are needed to ensure its youngest children are able to learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Currently, only morning kindergarten classes are offered and held in a small, borrowed room has a leaky roof and no toilet facilities. These limitations sadly mean the current classes are unable to accommodate all 40 of Xuan An’s kindergarten-age children. To care for the children who cannot attend these classes, parents and older sibling are prevented from pursuing the work or education that could improve their families' lives.
Before construction begins, Children of Vietnam staff and local officials will:
• sign a memorandum of understanding that states Xuan An officials will maintain the new kindergarten, employ college-trained teaching staff, and cover future expenses for school supplies, furniture, electricity, and water
• finalize the design and location of the kindergarten.
Once preliminary work is completed, Children of Vietnam’s staff engineer will oversee the entire construction process, including:
• taking bids from contractors
• monitoring progress of the project
• and inspecting the construction quality
