Water shortages have created critical health and development problems in Mulada village. In order to provide families with enough water for daily use, the village needs ten rainwater harvesting systems that will allow community members to collect and store 50,000 liters of water from the monsoon rains.
The roof rainwater harvesting systems provide the community with a sustainable solution to capture and store rainwater during the monsoon season as well as the infrequent visits from the government water tankard vehicle. Rainwater will collected through a gully system that is attached to the roof and empties into an underground water tank.
Each reinforced concrete water tank will also include a closed top to keep water clean and devoid debris and pollution, in addition a handpump that will allow families to procure water from the tank with ease. The ten rainwater harvesting systems will be disbursed throughout the village to ensure that every family has easy and reliable access to clean, drinking water.
Ten roof rainwater harvesting systems will be constructed throughout the village. Each unit includes an open gully that is attached to the four corners of the roof of a village house, and empties into a 5,000 liter capacity underground tank via a closed pipe. The reinforced cement tank will also include a handpump for easy water procurement.
Mulada village does not have the current infrastructure to supply the community with sufficient water. There is no plumbing in the village, and all agriculture and farming in the village is mostly rainfed. The only sources of water for families in Mulada are the monsoon rains and neighboring wells 3 kilometers away.
The lack of available water has forced families to reduce regular washing and cleaning, creating health and hygiene issues throughout the village. The water shortage has become a critical problem in the Mulada community, and families need the infrastructure to collect and store excess rainwater from the monsoon.
Local workers from the village will be hired to complete the construction and masonry work.
